Amador 1/2/15

I finally made it out to Amador for the first time of the
season. Got on the water about 0730 with Garrett and we began our troll. We made our first lap around the lake trolling Rapala's, spoons, and a crawler sling blade combo. Within the first 30 mins. mins of the day Garrett gets one on his crawler.

Nice quick start to the day. Trolled back into Jackson and saw several boats back in there beached either soaking bait or some might have been walked back into the creek. Too many people for me to want to get out and look. On our way back out of Jackson we had a drive by on a Rapala and then our action totally died. Switched things up, slowed the troll down and pulled worms a hoochies, then when that didn't work we just drifted bait in areas we saw rising fish. Talked to a few boaters trolling by and every single one of them said they were skunked. We did see some people beach on shore soaking bait doing really well though so we said hell if we can't beat em join em.

Picked a nice spot on the shore and threw our the powerbait and powereggs to soak for a while to see if we could get a bite this way. Probably about 15 mins into our soak Garrett missed a nice hit then I was able to stick one.

We stuck it out here for about two hours for a few more missed bites and one more fish. Then we left to give the troll another shot. I couldn't understand why we weren't catching fish on the troll. Maybe they just weren't in a chasing mood today or maybe they moved deeper because of the sunny day and I of course didn't bring the down riggers. We were hoping that now that its a little later in the day the fish might be more on the prowl, but we had no more luck trolling. After a while we picked another beach to toss bait at for the last hour of the day. We got lucky enough to pick up two more fish here before calling it a day just after 1600.

Talked to over a dozen people at the launch ramp and the cleaning station and there was a pretty common theme coming from the rest of the fisherman, "Skunked," "We got one," Skunked," "Only two today," "Skunked." A lot of people stuggled and everyone that did catch fish got them by soaking powerbait on the shore. After hearing all of the Garrett and I felt pretty good about the 5 that we got.

I thought it was funny our smallest fish actually isn't part of the Lassen stock, it's a hold over Cutbow. Man I sure miss the days when all of these cutbows were giants.

Upon later investigation I found out that Amador hasn't been stocked in probably two weeks. That I sure had a lot to do with our slow bite today. I'll be back though, had a great time on the water today and it was nice to have a fun relaxing day of fishing.

Till Next Time
Mark
